New Addition to the Family

Evan is the proud new.....no not Father....owner, of Donnatella, the turtle. I have this funny feeling that at some point in Evan's childhood he would have loved a turtle and is now reliving a childhood fantasy. Brooklyn, bless her heart, had found the turtle abandoned and stuck in the canal where our ward garden is located. Being the rescuers, they felt an obligation to adopt said turtle. Evan was so excited, especially after learning that this particular breed of turtle are the ones the TMNT's were created after. Discussing the possibilities of names with the girls- who I might add, eagerly took the side of keeping the turtle- Leonardo, Donnatello, Michaelangelo, Rafael, even Splinter was an option. Taking the turtle to the pet store to gear up for a new pet and to get info on the how-to's of taking care of a turtle, they soon found, to their dismay, that Donnatello is a Donnatella. We kept her in a make shift aquarium, aka the cooler. Luckily, Evan's Birthday was coming. The girls and grandma and grandpa pitched in to get a nicer one with all the gadgets and equipment a turtle could ever ask for. Happy Birthday Evan! We love you!

Garden Specialist?!

For all of you who haven't heard...Evan is the new ward garden specialist! Evidently it is a 'learn as you go'/ 'training on the job' kind of position. Experience optional. Evan is having a blast doing it and we are learning alot about gardening. We have combined our efforts with the Cortina 2nd ward so we are able to plant a larger variety of vegetables. We had a Ward/Primary activity to plant the garden and the turn out was awsome. We got all 24 rows (each row is 150ft long) planted in less than 2 1/2 hours! Being the garden SPECIALIST, we are now hoping things grow. We'll let you know.

Brooklyn decided that being pampered was the way to go for her birthday. So bringing the Spa home for her and her friends was what she wanted. Thanks to Jessica, Ashley, and Jessica's friends Sydney and Amanda, and Rachel the party was a breeze. And of course Evan wouldn't miss an opportunity to join in as the "Master Nail Tech" for this special event! I must admit that having the older girls to plan, set up, and help-out made my job a piece of cake. And when all is said and done Brooklyn was able to return the favor (you can tell that both of them look overjoyed)

When two friends ask to put on make-up for a fashion show, what kind of fashion show would you normally imagine? Of course, Brooklyn doesn't do anything typical. Let's just say, it took longer to take it off than it did to put it on. But they sure had fun!

Getting ready for Halloween!

We started off the Halloween season with decorating sugar cookies. We have learned that it isn't so much that the pumpkin faces are scary, funny, cute, or unique. It's all about how much candy the cookie can hold! We had a great time with each other and the kids enjoyed a sugar rush right before bed.

BFCS First Choir Performance

As much as Jessica doesn't want to do choir, she did really well. Of course she got new shoes out of the deal! I wonder what else I can get her to do? Hmm.......

Jessica cheered at her first game. She did great. Uncle Todd, Aunt Wende, and Macie came. Everyone agrees that the cheerleaders did a much better job than the basketball games (besides they are much cuter, too). She started out as a spotter but really wants to learn to be a flyer. So suggesting that she talk to her coach, she is now learning both. At the games she alternats and does a little of both positions. She is having fun and mom notices that the shy quiet Jessica is slowly disappearing and she is turning into a beautiful young lady, that is going through the common teenage rituals: friends, phone, friends, babysitting, homework, friends, phone, etc. You get the idea!

First Day of School

I have been a little slow posting, but the girls did have a great first day of school. Starting on Aug 6. It seems like every year, summer gets a little bit shorter. All three had a great day and it has been a few weeks into the year and no complaining as of yet. So we are off to a great start. I feel like my life has now been altered to full time school bus driver. Adding to the three trips to the school to drop off and pick up kids ( Brooklyn only goes half a day), Ashley will be starting early morning band, and Jessica is starting after school sports. So that adds two more trips. I think a whole new appreciation for mom has been conceived. Thanks Mom!

Getting Ready For School!

Of course we have to wait until the last minute to get ready for school. Haircuts, shoes, last minute outfits.....It seems like every year there is more and more. But we still had fun. Evan lasted up until the haircuts. Which I might add, was the first thing we did that day! We do have to give him credit, it takes a very stable man to go shopping with 4 GIRLS!!! At the end of the day, we got everything done and the girls were excited to get to their first day of school.

Part of our trip to Salt Lake included taking Mom out for her Birthday. We had lots of fun and the food was Yummy! We ate at Zupa's, a soup, salad, and panini restaraunt. If you haven't eaten there, let me highly recommend it, everything is fresh. Mom was able to enjoy her daughters and some of her grandchildren. Then it was off to Kathryn's to do what mom love's best...Games.

What a Good Looking Family

We had a great time in Salt Lake! We were able to get all the sisters together and all but one brother. Over the 4th of July weekend, we spent the day in Heber enjoying the Holt-Hurler Family Reunion. It was fun seeing cousins and family. We then moved our little party down to Sugarhouse to play games at Kathryn's and Kayvon's house. We may have missed the fireworks this year but I think all in all we had a great time.

2008 Family Trip to Fishlake

Short and sweet, is really the name of our trip. We stopped for 2 days on our way

to Salt Lake City. Evan's family did family pictures and we got to visit with everyone. We do wish we had stayed longer, but Crystal had a family reunion in Heber we had to catch. *If Evan got his way, we would still be enjoying Fishlake! Maybe next year.

Jessica made her theatrical debut in the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. She was the cutest Towns Child on stage. She did a great job!

Hello from the Hale's

Hello! As I am enjoying the comfort and air-conditioned solitude of my home, I thought I would expand my horizons and tackle the blog. Ashley and Brooklyn left for Utah with their grandparents and Jessica has agreed to help me set up our blog (of course this help is coming from the other room!). So it seems that this will be my new hobby. If any of you are pro-bloggers and have tips, advice, or suggestions let me know.
